Barney Bears nursery West Ham was opened in 2012. We are Ofsted registered, offering places from 3 months to 2 years of age and for children aged 2-5 years. The Nursery was last inspected by Ofsted in 19th October 2017 and was rated ‘Good’.
Barney Bears Nursery West Ham was inspected by Ofsted in February 2014 and we were rated ‘Good’. The nursery offers full and part-time places and AM and PM sessions from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday (except bank holidays). The nursery is open for the 51 weeks a year and close 1 week at Christmas.
The nursery offers freshly prepared meals on the premises and rotates a four week nutritional menu (menus). The nursery was rated 5 stars by the environmental health protection agency for our outstanding levels of cleanliness and organisation of our food preparation areas.
Within the borough of Newham we work closely with the local authority.
What we Offer – Barney Bears West Ham offer two separate areas in both age groups where the children can be cared for we rotate the layout of both the main and baby areas regularly to offer a variety and a new prospective on the space.
The Baby Room – Cares for children under the age of 2 years in a peaceful, calm environment where we provide a comfortable homely space where parents/carers and staff can bottle feed and settle the babies. We follow the babies personal routine by working closely with the parent/carers in line with the EYFS “Partnership with Parents”. Using different sounds, colours and textures to stimulate the babies’ curiosity and desire to explore the world around them.
We also offer a creative area with messy activities for them to explore and experiment. We also use this area for our heuristic play session which is for the babies to explore natural sensory materials.
We have a quiet cot area where the babies and children can rest or sleep. We also provide a separate nappy changing facility. The babies participate in weekly dance movement sessions carried out by a professional music theatre, along with regular cooking activities.
Throughout our daily activities we provide real experience for the children to play and explore such as babies using their sense with the jelly, hay, flour, real fruits and vegetables etc. We extend this through our outdoor experiences through our daily outings and trips (events).
Garden – Outside play is paramount to the child’s development we ensure our babies experience garden play each day.
Our Main room offers fun and excitement for the older children from 2 to 5 years through a variety of activities. Our main room children spend their time between the creative area and garden. The main room activities are split into areas of construction for building and dismantle, home corner for Role Play and areas for table top and floor base activities which include mark making, maths, understanding of the world and ICT activities.
Pre-skills are activities that are planned and tailored to our individual children to focus on skills which encompass personal, emotional and social skills and learning linked to two specific areas in the EYFS curriculum: Mathematics and Literacy. We endeavour to support and encourage children at their own pace with the aim of school readiness. There is also an area where children can relax for story time or develop their reading skills.
The creative area offers sand and water, painting, drawing and the opportunity for the children to experience a wide range of other messy materials and activities. The children follow a flexible daily routine which includes, cooking activities, dance and movement, pre-school skills activities.
Garden – Our garden is used for all ages to explore safely and enjoy outdoor play though out the year which helps to improve their physical development. West Ham’s garden has a discovery area where children can grow and explore the environment by looking at insects. The area has tactile boards and a shaded area.
Buggy Park – Parents are able to leave their buggies within the buggy park.
Parking – There are parking facilities available within the park.

A fixed deposit is required, to secure a nursery space:
- Hourly Rate = £7
- 2 days = £100.00
- 3 – 5 days = £200.00
- We also require a £25 admin fee on confirmation of nursery space.

The nursery is closed for one week at Christmas. The fees are based on a 51 week year or 39 weeks for term time. Funding will be deducted from your child’s nursery fees.
